The evenings topic was the appraisal of prints submitted for the annual members exhibition which will go on display for the first outing at Hope Church from Saturday June 27th to Saturday July 4th
The second time it is on display is in Bradwell Church from Saturday August 1st to Saturday August 8th. The exhibition has a final outing at our coffee morning on Saturday September 26th at Castleton Village Hall. You can of course look at the digital version of each print on the Exhibition 2026 page of this website, however the quality of each image is much reduced for web display.

Our guest for the evening was David Gibbins ARPS.APAGB.EFIAP/b.BPE5.CPAGB/av

Throughout the evening David emphasised that it was the photographer who needed to be content with the image and that his appraisal was just an opinion. With some of the photographs he reminded us that if it is possible to revisit a site then a difference in the light or season might make a big difference to the image.
As part of his remit for the evening he had the difficult job of deciding on the best colour image and the best monochrome image.
The Catherine Cup for the best overall colour image was awarded to –
John Sampson for “Needs Must”

The Dennis Thorpe Trophy for the best monochrome image was awarded to –
David Gulland for “Calmness at Bamford Weir”

At the interval the members present were invited to vote for what they considered were the best 3 images in the general category and also for 3 images in the challenge category which this year was Windswept and Interesting
Roger coordinated the votes via Google and then Ian announced the results.

Equal first place in the members vote went to Taking the Rough with the SmoothSteve

Taking 3rd place in the members vote was Golden EyesJohn S
Three images also had a high number of votes and were therefore in the “Commended” category
